The market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) has revealed that Apple beats Xiaomi in China by shipping 44.9 million iPhones to China. Xiaomi also touted as the ‘Apple‘ of China has slipped to the fifth spot by shipping 41.5 million smartphones while Apple marked shipping 44.9 million iPhones to the country.
According to IDC’s Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report, Apple has dropped from 58.4 million iPhones in 2015, hitting a 23 percent dip, while Xiaomi from 64 million Mi phones last year, with a drop of 36 percent.
Another leading tech giant, Oppo is leading the market by shipping 78.4 million phones this year which are more than double the 35.4 million phones shipped in 2015. Huawei came in at the second position by shipping 76 million phones, while Vivo managed to double its shipment from 35 million in the year 2015 to 69 million this year.
Tay Xiaohan, the Senior Market Analyst, IDC Asia/Pacific’s Client Device team said in a statement “Increased dependence on mobile apps has led to consumers to seek phone upgrades, thus helping drive the large growth in the fourth quarter of 2016. In lower-tiered cities, there was a similar demand by consumers, which Oppo and Vivo met be aggressively pushing mid-range smartphones in these cities.”
Despite the decline in the market, IDC does not believe that Chinese sellers have eaten away Apple’s market share. Many Apple iPhone users in China are expected to be holding out for the new iPhone that will be launched this year. This may help the company to move in a profitable position in the year 2017.
