Google Looks To Empower SMBs With Digital Training And Website Builder

New Delhi: Mr Sundar Pichai, CEO of the Internet giant Google launched two new initiatives on Wednesday for the development of small and medium businesses (SMB) in the country.

Google CEO launched the “Digital Unlocked”, a Google initiative digital training programme and “My Bussiness App”, a free website builder that aimed at empowering 51 million SMBs in India.

While launching the two new initiatives, Mr Sundaar Picahi said that the internet was a powerful equaliser which motivated them in bringing the benefits of information and technology to as many people as possible. The heart and core of what they do are to build and make the internet available in the hands of everyone by open ecosystem investing, he added.

“Digital Unlocked”

He also mentioned that the internet and technology would be the engine of Indian economy’s growth. It is important for anyone to become an entrepreneur, creator or a developer by having a right tool and skills to digitise.

The company believes that investing in training and equipping the individuals and small businesses was important to accelerate the journey of growth, said Pichai on the Digital Unlocked initiative launch.

The Digital Unlocked initiative by Google would offer 5,000 offline training workshops for SMBs for the next three years across 40 cities to build their skills. Training would be provided by Google in partnership with FICCI and the Indian School of Bussiness. It includes one-day-on-site training for SMBs such that helping them understand their customer needs and work towards it.Google

The online training consists of about 90 self-paced video tutorial with topics from building a web presence and driving the online growth such that to reach the customers over mobile and video. The certification of the training would be given by the Google, FICCI and the Indian School of Business.

The internet giant, Google also launched a new mobile app called Primer. It works on Android and iOS platforms in offline mode, and the app would impart similar digital training in an interactive manner to the businesses. The app is available in English and Hindi and sooner will be available for Tamil, Telugu and Marathi.

My Business Websites

Mr Sundar Pichai also launches a free app named My Business Websites that aims at equipping a vast majority of small businesses to start the digital journey. It provides simple, editable websites along with templates for the small businesses.

My Business Websites would be available in English, Bengali, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi,  Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, and Malayalam.

MrRavi Shankar Prasad, Union IT minister, was also present at the launch and asked the Google to look into the country’s cyber security.
